Start of operations in the Ribeirinha common land
Antarr began in February the intervention project in the concession area for land use, covering approximately 255 hectares in the Local Community of the Baldios of Ribeirinha, in the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar. The project aims to restore the region’s Natural Capital by promoting a multifunctional landscape that combines sustainable production with environmental preservation.
This initial phase includes an intervention area of approximately 199 hectares, guided by a diversified management plan. About 100 hectares will be planted with pine, essential for the regeneration of the area and for the sustainable production of timber. Additionally, approximately 50 hectares will be planted with chestnut trees for fruit production, located within the Padrela Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) area, establishing an important zone for both forestry and agricultural value creation. The project will also include the planting of 18 hectares of cork oak, a key species for cork production and for delivering a range of ecosystem services in the region. To foster biodiversity and strengthen environmental resilience, around 16 hectares of various native broadleaf species will be distributed throughout the intervention area.
In addition to the planting of species, the project will also involve an intervention in the property’s road network, with approximately 11 km of paths being reordered and improved, ensuring greater accessibility throughout the area. Finally, about 15 hectares of watercourses and riparian galleries essential for the protection of water resources and the conservation of associated fauna and flora will be restored, reinforcing the sustainability of the local ecosystem.
