Antarr starts operations at Cabeça, Seia
The second landscape restoration project carried out by Antarr is already underway, this time in the Baldio de Cabeça, a 500-hectare area located in the Serra da Estrela. The area under intervention suffered a fire in March 2021 and was completely deforested when the contract was signed with Baldio de Cabeça.
The project aims to transform the landscape through the diversification of species and land uses, the diversification of products – wood, fruit, cork – and the recovery and preservation of riparian galleries and other conservation areas. After the intervention, around 50% of the area will be dedicated to conservation and protection areas.
The intervention project was developed in conjunction with the local community of Baldios de Cabeça in order to ensure that the sharers can continue to enjoy the natural spaces and maintain access to products such as medronho and branches of pseudotsuga, a species that is already one of the ex libris of Serra da Estrela, fundamental components of the decoration of the village for the Aldeia Natal festival, an event with national projection that attracts thousands of tourists every year.
It should also be noted that this project also includes the restoration of an old botanical reserve that was abandoned and which is one of the rare places in Portugal where the azereiro, Prunus lusitânica, occurs naturally.
We’ll be bringing you news about this project soon.
